Misuse of Scientific Research in Health and Fitness Marketing

     It can be very difficult to separate quality sources of health and fitness information from misleading or untruthful information used for manipulation or product promotion. One of the primary reasons is because sources of quality information and sources of mediocre information both use scientific data to make their information come across as more factual or compelling.

An Introduction to Supplements and the Supplement Industry

     If you are unfamiliar with supplements, trying to buy them can be confusing and overwhelming, because there are so many different brands and products, with new ones coming out all the time. There are currently so many products that it is practically impossible to keep track of everything. Even people who work in the supplement industry tend to specialize in certain areas, such as vitamins/minerals, sports supplements, herbs, etc.

Fact or Fiction: Iceberg Lettuce is a Food you should Avoid

Over the years iceberg lettuce has received its fair share of negative publicity. It often appears on lists such as “the top 10 foods you should avoid” or “foods you may think are healthy, but really aren’t.” All of this negativity towards iceberg lettuce stems from the fact that is does not have that many vitamins or minerals compared to darker green leafy vegetables, so it is often considered a source of empty calories. Yet the question remains, is iceberg lettuce actually a food you should avoid?

The Problem with Health and Fitness Today

     The unfortunate fact is the health and fitness industry is becoming increasingly more and more about marketing and sales and less about providing quality information, products, and services. Of course, selling has always played a prominent role in health and fitness, but these days, making the sale is more important than ever. It is now common for companies and individual sellers to spend most of their time and energy developing better sales pitches and marketing tactics, as opposed to developing better products and services. In other words, health and fitness is becoming less about helping you succeed in reaching your goals and more about finding ways to manipulate you into buying a particular product or service, regardless if it will benefit you or not.
