Cooking with the Wrong Fats and Oils can be Disastrous

     The types of fats you eat are very important for your overall health and your ability to lose fat. In past decades, people were frequently told to keep all fat consumption to a minimum, but that was pretty bad advice. Fortunately, people are generally more knowledgeable about basic nutrition and as you probably know, there are good (healthy) fats and bad (unhealthy) fats. While many people realize fats, such as hydrogenated fats, are bad for you and other fats, such as Omega-3 oils, are good for you, fewer people are aware that cooking has a major impact on the healthiness of some fats.

Healthy Foods can Taste Better than you Think

     I believe that virtually everyone wants to eat healthier, but there are a number of things that seem always get in the way. One of the biggest problems for people, especially those who generally eat unhealthy foods, is that healthier foods typically don’t taste as good as the foods they are used to eating. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard people try healthy foods and say things like, “This tastes like sawdust” or “I might as well be eating cardboard.” Obviously, this is problematic, because if you can’t stand the taste of healthy foods, you will probably continue eating unhealthy foods.

Common Flaws in Exercise Program Design: Not Training Muscles Equally

     I have previously discussed the importance of exercising with proper technique, but even if you have great form, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a good workout routine. Technique is certainly an important element, but the design of your exercise program is equally important. Program design includes things like how much weight you use, the number of reps, how long you rest between sets, etc. There are many important elements in program design, but the one I will focus on today is choosing the actual exercises you perform.

The Best way to Lose Fat from your Problem Areas

     Everyone has problem areas; you know those areas that seem to accumulate fat more than other areas in your body. For many people, those areas are the first places you gain fat when you gain weight and the last places you lose fat when you lose weight, which is why they are such a problem. There are a ridiculous number of pills, powders, exercise products, diets, etc. all promising to make fat from your problem areas disappear, often in as little as 4 to 6 weeks. Of course, this is all just marketing hype to sell what are usually disappointing products that sound much better than they actually are.
